You’ve found the man of your dreams and you’re sporting a bit of sparkle on a very important finger. In other words, you’re engaged! Lucky you 🙂

Now what? If you’re anything like most brides, you’re probably feeling completely elated…and slightly overwhelmed. With so much to do, when and how should you get started on invitations? To answer this question and to get your creative juices flowing, look no further. At EnvelopMe.com, our utmost priority is to help your wedding – the invitation portion, at least – run seamlessly smooth. In this four-part blog post, you will find answers to some of the most common questions we are asked about getting started, so stay tuned for more!

Q: When should I begin thinking about my invitations?

A: The moment you get engaged. It is NEVER too soon! If you are planning a wedding that is months – or maybe even years – away, sending a save-the-date is a good way to ensure that the people near and dear to your heart will be able to make it.

But if your wedding is much sooner, I cannot stress the importance of planning ahead. So many brides forget about this step and come to us in a near panic, needing their invitations finished and ready to send ASAP! As a general rule, we like to allow 6-8 weeks for the entire invitation process, beginning with a price quote and ending with completed invitations in your hand. We can (and very often do) speed it up according to your needs, but if you stick to this timeline it stays pretty stress-free for everybody. Think about when you would like to send your invitations – etiquette in most areas of the country is between 6-8 weeks prior to your wedding.  If possible, you’ll want to begin your order with us approximately 6 months before your wedding date.

Save-the-Dates generally go out one year to six months prior to the event, so allow 6-8 weeks before you need these as well (although save-the-dates are usually less complex, so they go a little faster than invites).  If you are assembling your own invitations or addressing the envelopes, allow yourself plenty of time for that as well when determining your timeline.

Remember, the invitations set the stage for your entire wedding. If you forget to send them ahead of time, many friends and relatives won’t be able to enjoy the results of the tireless hours you spent planning a beautiful celebration! So if you contact us today about your wedding that’s in November 2014 – we won’t think you’re crazy. Actually, we might. But the point is, we love it when our customers are on top of things! 😉
