• Friday Feature – “Something Blue”

By Tayva Bloomer

Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something…. wondering how to incorporate a bit of blue into your wedding? Why not make the color a theme at your bridal shower?!

3 Things I Love:

1. Color

This invitation incorporates 3 different stock colors: C2 Caspian, C2 Creme Brulee, and C4 Aquamarine-REG30. Some readers may already be aware of my love for Creme Brulee stock from the last article I wrote. There’s just something about its golden tint that adds a bit of sparkle and warmth to the typical shade of ivory. The Pocket Envelope is Caspian, which is one of our most popular colors. It is the perfect shade of what is commonly referred to as “Tiffany Blue” – and let’s face it: ladies, who among us does not like the thought of anything Tiffany’s-related? For a bridal shower, I don’t think there is any color that can more perfectly evoke the feelings of romance and excitement every woman dreams about! Pairing both with the corresponding blue Regalia pattern adds just the right touch of elegance to complete the look.

2. Typography

There are several small characteristics of the typography that set this invitation apart from others. Because it is a shower celebrating the bride, just her name is highlighted with a bold, cursive font. The rest of the information appears in a uniform, small-caps font. Another detail my OCD-self can really appreciate is the organization of the invite. It begins with a poem to introduce the occasion, then the bell artwork divides the introduction from the key information being presented. Once the formal invitation has been extended (“The pleasure of your company is requested at…”), the details of the event (ie. date/time, location, etc.) are grouped together in couplets, which is both visually-pleasing and less overwhelming to the reader. The artwork chosen – both the wedding bells on the invitation and the frame on the envelope icing – is very traditional, making this a classic invitation that will stand the test of time.

3. Assembly

In essence, this invitation is very simple; it only has one backing layer and is housed inside a pocket envelope. However, envelope icing, a pattern for the backing layer, and the “bling” glued to the wedding bells are all elements that help take this streamlined design to a whole different level. Also, the strategic placement of the bell graphic allows it to be seen once the flap is lifted, without giving the rest of the invitation away (a fun advantage of using pocket envelopes)! You can use the Pocket Envelope as a self-mailer as shown here, or insert into an outer envelope for mailing if you choose.

This invitation combines elegance and simplicity to create a finished product that is both lovely and feminine. Perfect!
