• A “Mason Jar” themed Rustic Wedding

Erin & Jason’s Rustic Wedding – photo by www.collettemrukphotography.com

Rustic weddings are hot, and we have been dying to share this delightful rustic invitation suite that we created for Erin & Jason, along with Wedding Coordinator Shannon McLeod (whom we adore, by the way!).  And we thought it would be fun to take you through the design process of how this invitation came to be.

It all started with a mason jar and an idea or two. The wedding was being held at the breathtaking Boone Hall Plantation in South Carolina, so the couple wanted an invitation that would set the stage for the amazing venue.

We began working on the Save-the-date cards several months prior to the wedding – which was a good thing as it took a few drafts to get to “the one”.

We played around with different layouts, artwork and font combinations to get it just right. First, we found and/or created a variety mason jars to find the perfect icon.  We ended up designing our own custom Mason Jar artwork, since the stock images were not quite what the couple was looking for.

Here are a few of the motifs we presented while searching for the perfect mason jar icon for the rustic wedding invitation suite for Erin & Jason.

Once we had the “Jar” motif set, we went to work on selecting the fonts and embellishments. Here’s one of our earlier draft layouts that was really cute – a round die cut printed on Kraft cardstock with the mason jar icon on the front and the save-the-date info on the back.

As adorable as the earlier draft was, we ended up with a final save-the-date that was a little more tactile, and we just LOVED the end result  — the combination of rustic letterpress cotton stock with an elegant bronze metallic custom envelope that holds the date on a string:

After the save-the-dates were completed, we set to work on the actual invitation.  For the invite, the couple decided on a pocket card, with the invitation mounted to one side, and the informational enclosures in the pocket on the reverse.

Keeping with the branding and look we set up in the save-the-dates, the invitation was again printed on thick, cottony letterpress stock, and paired with metallic bronze for the pocket, with a burlap wrap and a small mason jar seal. We used the font set and embellishment styles we’d chosen from the Save-the-Dates to keep continuity among the pieces. Here’s a digital proof of the front design (sorry we don’t have a gorgeous photo of the actual invite on this side but we provide our clients with pretty nice digital proofs 🙂 ):

We also helped them with a few other items for the day of the wedding. I love this shot as you can see close-up the textures of the various elements that helped create the ambiance of the wedding:
